Dead Sea salts have been celebrated for their health benefits since ancient times. Many people with skin conditions go to bathe in the mineral-rich waters and mud of the Dead Sea to soothe their irritable skin.

It’s no longer necessary to do that – or even visit a spa. Westlab Kids Dead Sea Bath Salts bring all the essential minerals from the Dead Sea to your bath tub and it is suitable for children to use.

You’ll find that the minerals in these bath salts will soothe children’s dry, itchy skin and help it to heal naturally. It is suitable to use with more severe skin conditions such as eczema, acne, and psoriasis. For instance, there is research that shows that psoriasis patients who bathed for an hour a day in the Dead Sea improved by almost 90 percent.

The Dead Sea Salt in this product is genuine, unrefined, high grade, naturally cleaned, and rich in magnesium, calcium, and potassium.

These minerals are essential for general health and, in particular, healthy skin. For instance, magnesium soothes, protects, balances and repairs damaged skin; calcium acts as an antioxidant that aids new cell growth; and potassium helps to balance the moisture levels in the skin.

All children over the age of 3 months can use these salts safely, if the directions for use are followed.

For skin treatment for infants over 3 months old, place one heaped teaspoon of the salts in a warm bath (approx 37°C) and allow it to dissolve. Your child should soak in the bath for around 20 minutes up to 3 times a week.

For older children, follow the same guidelines but initially use around 100g-250g per 15cm of water in an adult bath. This amount can be increased up to 500g for under-10-year-olds.

Westlab Kids Dead Sea Bath Salts should not be used by infants under the age of 3 months unless directed to do so by a medical professional. Keep the salts away from the reach of children.

The bath salts are for external use and should not be ingested.

If your child has a medical condition or is taking other medication, consult with a doctor or skincare specialist before using this product.

Do not use the bath salts on broken skin and avoid contact with the eyes and facial area. In case of contact with eyes, rinse out with clean water. If there is irritation, stop using and seek medical advice if it persists.

Side Effects

Westlab Kids Dead Sea Bath Salts are free from side effects when used as directed. There are no recorded interactions with other medicines.

Scientific Research

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts could not find clinical data on the use of Westlab Kids Dead Sea Bath Salts in people with psoriasis. However, dead sea water contains a larger concentration of chloride, magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium, bromide, sulfate and bicarbonate than other seas around the world. Especially the high concentration of magnesium which helps the skin retain water is thought to give this its moisturizing properties (1).

Studies have shown that the combination of Dead Sea salt balneotherapy (bathing) and phototherapy (exposure for UVB) have a great benefit on psoriatic lesions (2). For instance, one study that investigated skin biopsies of patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis before and after combining Dead Sea Water balneotherapy and phototherapy, demonstrated a significant reduction in the disease severity after 4 weeks of treatment (3).

Although arguably, the phototherapy is the most important factor in this, a specific benefit of Dead Sea water balneotherapy is also suggested (4).

For people with Eczema

HelloSkin’s experts were not able to find clinical data on Westlab Kids Dead Sea Bath Salts and the effect in atopic dermatitis. Dead sea water contains a higher concentration of chloride, magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium, bromide, sulfate and bicarbonate than other seas around the world. Especially because of the high concentration of magnesium, which helps the skin retain water, the dead sea water is thought to have moisturizing properties (1).

In dry skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function (5).

Furthermore, a study in patients with atopic dry skin showed that treatments with dead sea salt for 6 weeks decreased the transepidermal water loss from the skin significantly, enhanced stratum corneum hydration, and reduced skin roughness and inflammation (6).
