Description

KIMOVI Gel forms a thin barrier layer on the skin to protect it from potential external factors that can irritate or damage it.

This is especially useful for sensitive and delicate skin, for instance in people suffering from a skin condition. Where skin on the body or scalp has become itchy or flaky, excessively oily or impure, or where it blemishes or has been damaged by the effects of the sun, this gel may help.

It has a gentle action that soothes the skin and restores stability and balance to it. This is partly due to the ingredients it leaves out, as well as the ingredients it includes.

KIMOVI Gel excludes many of the irritants and sensitizers that are commonly found in skin treatments. These include preservatives likes parabens, as well as colourants and fragrances that can cause further complications in skin that is already sensitive and damaged.

Instead, it uses the proven healing power of nature to restore the natural healing abilities of the skin. Kigelia Africana is derived from the fruit of a tropical African tree and is included in all KIMOVI products.

It has been used for hundreds of years as a natural medicine for the treatment of skin problems in its native regions. As the main active ingredient in this gel, it contributes to its soothing qualities that help reduce itching and restore balance. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of the Kigelia Africana help to nurture the skin back to health.

According to KIMOVI Gel reviews, it has a non-greasy texture and is rapidly absorbed by the skin. It is designed to have a long-term action on affected areas of skin. Unlike some of the other skin treatments in the KIMOVI range sold in the UK, this gel does not contain mineral salts. It can be used safely by children and adults.

Scientific Research

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts did not find any clinical data on the use of KIMOVI gel in people with psoriasis or other dry skin conditions. However, the product contains glycerin which is found naturally in the skin where it helps attract and retain water from the deeper skin layers, thereby helping hydrating and moisturising the skin (1). In dry skin conditions, including psoriasis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which may be worsening the disease symptoms (2).

KIMOVI gel also contains fruit extracts from the African plant, Kigelia Africana. Kigelia africana is reported to be widely used as a natural treatment (3) and although many of its traditional medicinal uses have not been investigated scientifically, it is presumed to have antimicrobial, antioxidant and wound healing properties. One of its suggested bioactive substances is verminoside, which has been reported to have anti-inflammatory properties in immune cells in laboratory models (4).

Laboratory studies have also shown Kigelia africana extracts to have antibacterial activities against a range of test bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus (5). In psoriatic plaques, colonisation with the bacteria S. aureus may be increased (6). One study reported that S. aureus was present in 15 of 25 of the psoriatic plaques that were investigated of which one third of the bacteria was toxigenic, and that the disease severity was linked to a higher enterotoxin production (7) HelloSkin’s experts have not been able to find any clinical trials investigating the Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract in people with psoriasis.
