For people with Psoriasis
HelloSkin’s experts were not able to find clinical data on the use of Flexitol Heel Balm Platinum in people with psoriasis. However, the product contains urea and paraffin.
Urea is an important component of the epidermis where it serves to keep healthy skin hydrated by attracting and binding water as a part of the skin’s natural moisturising factor (1). As such, topically applied urea has been shown to increase epidermal water content and reduce the loss of water across the skin surface when measured shortly after application (2). Further, a 10%-concentration of urea has been shown to reduce scaling and redness of psoriatic plaques when compared to the same ointment without urea (3).
Paraffin forms a lipid barrier on the skin, which traps water and limits water evaporation from the skin surface.
For people with Eczema
HelloSkin’s experts could not find any clinical data on the use of Flexitol Heel Balm Platinum in people with atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains urea, which in atopic dermatitis, has been shown to reduce disease severity by about 20% after 42 days when using emollients containing urea (either 5% or 10%) (4).
Also, in eczematous skin, urea has been shown to improve hydration of the upper skin layer, the water binding capacity and to reduce the water loss across the skin surface (2).
Flexitol Heel Balm Platinum also contains paraffin which is known to limit water evaporation from the skin surface, and thereby help in keeping the skin moist.
