Description

Eucerin Intensive Foot Cream 10% Urea is formulated for people with dry to severely dry skin on their feet.

This cream is another in the intensive skincare range of products from Eucerin, which contain urea and lactate as their main active ingredients and are designed to provide relief and protection for people with dry skin conditions.*

The feet often suffer from dry, cracked, fissured skin as a result of cold weather, the use of household soaps and cleansers that contain harsh chemicals, and/or an underlying dry skin condition.

Healthy skin contains good levels of urea and lactate, two natural moisturising factors (NMFs) produced in the body that keep the skin well-hydrated, soft, and smooth. In people with a dry skin condition, such as Xerosis or dry skin from diabetes, these substances have been depleted and the skin’s natural protective barrier against moisture loss becomes compromised.

The urea content in this foot cream helps to bind moisture to the upper layers of skin and also break the connections between dead skin cells that cause skin to become rough and hard. This cream also contains lactate, which absorbs and retains moisture in the upper skin layer. These ingredients combine to make chapped, callused, and dry skin on the feet look and feel softer, smoother, and suppler.

Because there are no colours, parabens, or fragrances in this foot cream, it is generally extremely well tolerated.

Scientific Research

For people with Psoriasis

Helloskin’s experts were unable to find the clinical data on the benefits of Eucerin Intensive Foot Cream 10% Urea in people with psoriasis. However, the product contains urea, lactic acid and glycerin.

In concentrations of 10%, urea can help break down the outer layer of the skin. Urea is also known to be able to attract and retain water in the upper skin layer, and may also help maintaining a functional skin barrier in other ways (1). In dry skin conditions, including psoriasis, water loss from the upper skin layer is linked to a reduced skin barrier function, which may be worsening the disease symptoms (2).

The product also contains glycerol which occurs naturally in the skin. In the skin, glycerol helps attract water from the deeper skin layer and bind water in the skin and thereby provide a moisturising effect (3).

Furthermore, the product contains lactic acid, which is a component in the natural moisturising factor in the upper skin layer that serves to keep this part of the skin well-hydrated, and which has been shown to be decreased in psoriatic lesions compared with healthy skin (4).

For people with Eczema

Helloskin’s experts were unable to find clinical data on the use of Eucerin Intensive Foot Cream 10% Urea in people with atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains urea, glycerin and lactic acid.

Topical urea has in atopic dermatitis been shown to reduce disease severity by about 20% after 42 days when combined in an emollient (either 5% or 10%) (5).

Also, these three ingredients are known to work partly by attracting and binding water in the skin and thereby help keeping it moist, (6, 3, 7).
