For people with Psoriasis
There exists no available clinical data on the benefits of E45 lotion on psoriatic lesions.
However, the product contains Medilan, a purified form of lanolin. Lanolin is a waxy substance obtained from the wool of sheep and sometimes called wool fat. A lanolin/olive oil emollient has been shown to reduce dermatitis in preterm infant when applied for 4 weeks (1).
Another study showed that pure lanolin applied twice daily for four weeks was effective in treating moderate to severe foot dryness (2).
It is important to notice that lanolin may cause contact allergy. However, Medilan does, as such, not cause contact allergies (3).
Furthermore, the products contains petrolatum and light liquid paraffin, which are known to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface. Water evaporation is increased in psoriatic lesions compared with normal skin (4).
For people with Eczema
HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find any clinical data on the benefits of E45 lotion in people with atopic dermatitis. However, the product contains petrolatum and light liquid paraffin known to help prevent water loss across the skin surface.
In children with mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis, petrolatum was reported to be just as effective as two prescription device moisturisers when applied three times daily for three weeks (5).
Also, the product contains medilan™, a purified form of lanolin. In preterm infants, a mixed lanolin/olive oil emollient reduced dermatitis when applied for 4 weeks (1).
Another study showed that pure lanolin applied twice daily for four weeks was effective in treating moderate to severe foot dryness (2). It is important to note that lanolin may cause contact allergy. Medilan™, however, does not as such cause contact allergies (3).
