Description

Skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne, can cause unexpected problems when it comes to sleeping.

With much of the conventional bedding made from polycotton, sweat can cause skin to stick to sheets, pillow cases, and duvet covers; fabrics can cause loose fibres to ‘catch’ on problem skin areas or create friction, which aggravates the condition; bacteria can form on the bedding and complicate skin conditions; and the bedding often deteriorates after frequent washing.

DermaTherapy flat sheets address each of these potential problems. They provide an ultra-smooth, dry, allergy-free and hygienic sleeping surface that is ideal for sufferers of eczema, psoriasis, and acne. The fabric that these sheets are made from is the first to be classified as a Class I Medical Device for mild atopic dermatitis both in the US and the EU.

The relief that it brings to people with skin conditions is due to its unique construction. The sheets use fine microfibers to provide a sleeping surface made up of continuous filament woven yarns. Unlike standard polycotton sheets, they remain free of loose fibres that often protrude and which can cause sensitive skin to become irritated or even broken.

In addition to removing the problem of friction, these sheets help to control potential skin irritants like excessive moisture. By channelling sweat away from the skin, it evaporates more easily and this reduces the chance of skin sticking to the sheet.

The element of hygiene is also important, as unwanted bacteria can lead to a worsening of acne and can complicate other skin conditions. DermaTherapy fabric features a durable, antimicrobial finish so that the sheets control bacteria and remain odour-free.

In combination, these qualities create optimal sleeping conditions, which is so important for health and wellbeing.

Besides this, the flat sheets are low in maintenance. They can be laundered using standard washing procedures, due to their soil release system, which easily removes any oil, medication, and blood. Unlike standard bedding, these sheets will keep their properties and remain free of lint even after frequent laundering.

The flat sheets are available in pure white, in king size (5’ wide).

As well as flat sheets, the DermaTherapy range includes other bedding made from the same fabric, including fitted sheets pillow cases, duvet covers, and more.

Scientific Research

For people with Psoriasis

HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find clinical data on the use of DermaTherapy Flat Sheet in people living with psoriasis. However, the benefits of using the DermaTherapy fabric has been shown in people with atopic eczema in a study from 2008 based on 37 people with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis. After 8 weeks of use there was a significant decrease in severity and itching. Furthermore the study showed ‘some improvement’ in a quality of life index, and in general, patients reported significant improvement in the amount of itching experienced, tendency to scratch, and overall skin appearance (1).
