Standard soap or shampoo, however mild, will have a drying effect on your skin if it's dry and sensitive. It is therefore important to use a shampoo that is intended for use on dry scalps/skin. Do not be concerned that soap substitutes do not foam - they are still effective at cleaning your hair and do not irritate your skin. Different from other shampoos, these do not dissolve the fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy skin. Many people with dry skin find that long hot showers dry out the skin, this is due to the fact that fatty acids have a very low melting pint, meaning they get easily washed away in warmer temperatures. That is why it is recommended to shorten the showering time or reduce the temperature, or preferable do both. Use emollients such as creams or lotions immediately after showering to avoid unnecessary drying out of the skin. To find more products for treating dry scalp, click here.
