For people with Acne
HelloSkin’s experts were not able to find any data on the use of Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Deep Pore Treatment Toner in people with acne. However, the product contains salicylic acid, which works as a chemical exfoliator to clean the pores (1).
In a small study with people suffering from acne, an exfoliator with 30% salicylic acid applied every two weeks was shown to decrease the level of sebum secreted already after the second application, and that it was superior compared with a 50% pyruvic peel (2). The glycerin in the product helps limit dry skin, because it binds the water in the skin and thereby enhances the skin’s water holding capacity. Furthermore it supports skin recovery and maintenance of the skin barrier, which is very important for the inflammed and irritated acne skin (3).
In cosmetic products the concentration of salicylic acid must not exceed 2%. Still, salicylic can cause mild side effects such as mild, local irritation, which should be noted prior to use of this product. If you notice any redness or your acne worsens, you should consider using a different product.
