Our medical team have researched some of the best products for you to use at each step ensuring that you'll be fully equipped to start your acne-clearing routine by the end of this article.

Step 1: Cleanse!

What it does:
Beginning your daily skincare-routine by cleansing your skin will relieve it from excess dirt and dead skin cells whilst unclogging your pores as well. This will aid your skin in maintaining it’s natural functions by helping it’s own beneficial oils reach the outer layers of the skin where they create a barrier protecting you from environmental stressors and the pollutants you are exposed to during the day.
Prepping your skin by removing impurities will also allow it to better absorb additional products that benefit your skin.

What to use:
Bioré Deep Pore Charcoal CleanserThis is a black cleanser containing charcoal which helps to suck out impurities from the pores. It has a foaming action and is easy to use and rinse off.

How to use it:
Wet your face and then start by massaging the cleanser into your skin for about 30 seconds. Finish by rinsing off the product and then gently pat your skin dry.
Use clean hands when cleansing your face. The roughness and bacterias from sponges or cloths may cause irritation to your skin. On that note: be gentle and avoid excessive washing and remember to use lukewarm water in order to avoid drying out your skin.

Step 2: Tone!

What it does:
Toners are water-based and their thin consistency makes them a perfect base for the skin's surface, serving as an addition to your everyday defence against impurities.
Toners help to remove any leftover debris after you've cleansed and help to sooth and smooth the skin’s surface, preparing it for the next steps in your daily routine.

What to use:
Sebamed Clear Face Deep Cleansing TonerThis toner has a deep cleansing action to prevent spots and blackheads and is formulated for acne-prone skin. It contains alcohol which helps to disinfect the skin after the first cleansing step but also contains witch hazel as well as glycerin and urea, ingredients that prevent the skin from drying out keeping it soft and smooth.

How to use it:
Apply a little bit of the toner onto a cotton back and gently smooth It across your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Remember that a toner is meant to be left on the skin, so do not rinse it off as you do with a cleanser.

Step 3: Moisturize!

What it does:
When you have acne-prone skin it can have an impact on your skin’s natural protective barrier. Damage to this barrier will leave your skin unprotected and unable to prevent bacteria and other pollutants in clogging your pores thus creating an increase in your acne and even cause infections.
Moisturizing with an emollient will help restore the natural barrier and moisturize your skin. Emollients work by increasing the water-binding capacity of the outer skin layers while also retaining water from the deeper skin layers. They also create a protective film of lipids preventing further water-loss and aids your skin In fighting off the impurities it is exposed to during the day.

What to use:

Hollywood Repairing Day CreamThis cream is especially for people with breakout-prone skin and is formulated to clear blemishes and prevent breakouts while providing long-lasting moisture. You can use it as you need during the day and the herbal extracts in the cream ensures rapid nourishment and hydration leaving your skin smooth and clean which means you can easily apply make-up after applying it.

How to use it:
When applying moisturizer you can make sure that you use the right amount, by estimating it by "fingertip unit”. You can read much more on how to measure you emollient in our "handy guide”.
For your face you should aim to use 1-2g of emollient a day, which is around 2-4 fingertip units. If your skin feels dry after application, apply some more!
Make sure that you gently smooth the product into your skin, as rubbing can cause irritation.

Step 4: Do it again!

What it does:
Don’t forget your evening routine! It’s important that you cleanse your face before bed, in order to wash away pollutants, makeup, dead skin cells and excess sebum that have accumulated during the day. Your skin protects you at daytime and at night it recovers, so it’s important that you give it the best circumstances to do so!
Repeat each step in you morning routine, but perhaps choose a different moisturizer. The higher the fat the emollient contains, the better it is at holding in moisture, but often people find the heavier creams to be to greasy for day-use. Night time is the ideal time to put a more efficient product to use.
