Dimethicone is a silicon-based polymer, and is one of the most widely used ingredients in personal care products due to its beneficial properties. Among these are dimethicone’s skin-hydrating property as an emollient, where it works to decrease water evaporation across the surface of the skin. Furthermore, dimethicone is known to be able to fill in the fine lines and wrinkles in the face. Because of this it is often used ingredient in makeup primers and anti-aging creams.
HelloSkin’s experts were unable to find any scientific data or clinical trials regarding the use of dimethicone in people with dry skin (xerosis).
